Bushfire Cricket Match: Sachin Tendulkar Faces Ellyse Perry, Fans Go Gaga

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has come to bat for the first time in five and a half years after his retirement as he faced an over from Australian speedster Ellyse Perry. This took place during Bushfire Cricket Bash, a charity match played at Junction Oval, Melbourne on Sunday.

The Bushfire Cricket Bash featured a 10-over per side charity match played between Ponting XI and Gilchrist XI. A lot of cricket legends took part in the game to raise funds for the Australia bushfire relief effort. Tendulkar, who has coached the Ponting XI, came out of his retirement after a request from Ellyse Perry and faced one over during the innings break.

The game started with a bang as Sachin Tendulkar started with a boundary off Perry.

However, it all started when Ellyse Perry had asked the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar to play an over on social media on Saturday afternoon via a video message. Tendulkar accepted her request and said he would play against his doctor’s advice and face an over from the Australia all-rounder.

Ellyse Perry on Sachin Tendulkar

“Hey Sachin, it’s awesome to have you out here in Australia supporting the Bushfire match. I know you’re coaching one of the teams but a few of us were sitting around last night chatting and we thought it would be absolutely amazing to see you potentially come out of retirement for one over in the innings break out here at Junction Oval,” she said.

“We’d love to have a bowl to you and obviously fetch a few balls from over the boundary that you’ve hit. We thought it would be an awesome way to raise a bit more money for the Bushfire Appeal, which I know you’re already doing so much for,” Perry further added. “If you’re at all up for it, we’d love to have you out here I know there’d be some girls very keen to field some balls that you hit. So let us know, and thanks again for everything.”

However, Sachin Tendulkar later jokingly said that he was more nervous than Perry. He also said that he could see the ball, although he was not sure about hitting.
